New York Times: Despite Revamp, Figure Skating Gets Mixed Marks
Figure skating is not a sport. It is a dance. It does not belong in the Olympics.
Why should we care about the academic qualifications of these athletes? Universities should admit athletes as athletes and drop any pretense of these players as students. If we want to pretend that these athletes are students, give them a degree in their sport. We could call the new degree a BG, Bachelor of Game. Students could then earn a Bachelor of Game in Basketball, or Bachelor of Game in Football.
New York Times: Stick, Ball, Breakthrough – Adding Diversity to Lacrosse…
“Nonprofit groups have been attracting a racially and economically diverse population to play a sport, created by Native Americans, that has long been associated with elite prep schools and colleges.”
“Cost is the primary deterrent.”
White people, pay up. This is going to close the achievement gap. Someone got an athletic scholarship.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with African-American children playing lacrosse. My only question: Why is this so difficult? Why did lacrosse advocate need to attend seven community board meetings to convince the black people? Why is this so important that the public school’s lacrosse commissioner buy the lacrosse sticks with his own money? Why don’t blacks just join a league like everyone else?
