New York Times: In Places Like North St Louis, Gunfire Still Rules the Night

From the fourth paragraph: “Mr. Wayne lives in a poor, mostly black community, where, as in similar neighborhoods across America, residents are fed up with persistent gun violence.”

No, the residents are not “fed up” with gun violence. The residents are the perpetrators. If the residents want the murders to stop, they would stop murdering each other.

Why the phrase gun violence? It sounds stupid. “Gun” is not an adjective.
